Zelenskyy, Lithuanian President Discuss Peace Efforts, Security Support, and EU Membership Path

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held talks with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, focusing on diplomatic coordination, battlefield developments, and Ukraine’s European future.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Lithuania and other Northern European and Baltic nations for their recent joint declaration affirming unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The declaration also underscored a commitment to intensify diplomatic efforts, provide assistance, and enhance sanctions on Russia in response to its ongoing aggression.
Both leaders reaffirmed a shared stance on the war’s resolution: a ceasefire must precede any diplomatic settlement. Zelenskyy emphasized that without robust and enforceable security guarantees, any temporary arrangement would merely allow Russia to regroup and resume hostilities.
Discussions also covered urgent military needs, particularly Ukraine’s ongoing defense against Russian missile and drone attacks. Zelenskyy thanked Lithuania for its role in supplying Patriot air defense systems, which have been instrumental in protecting Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
The talks extended to Ukraine’s EU accession process. Zelenskyy noted that President Nausėda fully supports Ukraine’s position that its path toward membership should be synchronized with that of Moldova. Both nations aim to advance toward European Union integration in a coordinated and simultaneous manner, reflecting their shared commitment to democratic values and regional stability.
Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine’s ultimate objective is a “just and lasting peace,” one that addresses not only the cessation of hostilities but also the security of the nation in the long term. He stressed that the unity of allies and their readiness to stand firm against Russian aggression remain crucial for achieving that outcome.
The conversation highlights the strong alignment between Kyiv and Vilnius, underscoring the Baltic region’s vital role in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and European aspirations.
