Ministry of Tourism Reviews Promotion of Hindi in Official Work, Releases ‘Rajbhasha Shabd Sangam’
The Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Tourism convened at The Ashok Hotel in New Delhi to assess the implementation of Rajbhasha Hindi in the Ministry’s official work and discuss new strategies to strengthen its use across administrative functions. The meeting brought together committee members and senior officials to review ongoing initiatives aimed at encouraging the effective use of Hindi while maintaining India’s multilingual character.
During the session, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat emphasized that Hindi serves as a language of connection rather than division. He stated that Hindi respects the existence of India’s diverse languages and helps unite people through a shared medium of communication, reflecting the country’s cultural richness and linguistic harmony.
Strengthening the Role of Rajbhasha Hindi
The committee examined the current use of Hindi in official correspondence, documentation, public communication, and administrative procedures within the Ministry of Tourism. Discussions focused on improving the quality of Hindi usage, expanding training programmes for employees, and encouraging greater adoption of bilingual administrative practices.
Officials also explored ways to integrate modern technology and digital tools to facilitate the wider use of Hindi in government operations without compromising efficiency or accessibility.
Release of ‘Rajbhasha Shabd Sangam’
A key highlight of the meeting was the release of the dictionary ‘Rajbhasha Shabd Sangam’ by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The publication is designed to support government officials, translators, and language professionals by providing standardized terminology for official communication.
The dictionary is expected to contribute to greater consistency and clarity in administrative language, helping ministries and departments implement Rajbhasha policies more effectively.
Promoting Linguistic Harmony
The discussions reaffirmed that promoting Hindi is intended to complement, not replace, India’s many regional and indigenous languages. India’s linguistic diversity remains one of its greatest cultural strengths, and policies related to Rajbhasha are implemented alongside constitutional provisions that recognize and protect multiple languages.
By encouraging the use of Hindi in governance while respecting regional linguistic traditions, the Ministry aims to enhance communication, improve administrative accessibility, and strengthen cultural inclusion.
Advancing Good Governance
The meeting reflected the government’s continued focus on making official communication more accessible to citizens through the wider use of Hindi in accordance with constitutional and administrative guidelines. Participants emphasized capacity building, language resources, and institutional cooperation as essential elements for expanding the effective use of Rajbhasha in public administration.
With the release of ‘Rajbhasha Shabd Sangam’ and renewed discussions on language promotion, the Ministry of Tourism seeks to reinforce efficient governance while celebrating India’s multilingual heritage and cultural unity.
