Five passengers were killed and five others injured after a private luxury bus collided with a truck on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway in Gujarat’s Anand district early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the accident happened while the bus was attempting to overtake the truck. The collision caused severe damage to the bus and prompted an immediate emergency response.

Bus Was Carrying Dozens of Passengers

The private bus was travelling from Surat toward Rajasthan and was carrying approximately 30 to 40 passengers when the crash occurred.

The collision happened at around 4 a.m., when many passengers were reportedly asleep. The impact caused panic inside the vehicle, while several people required assistance from rescuers.

Five Passengers Die

Police confirmed that five people lost their lives in the accident. Another five passengers sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

Emergency teams and police personnel reached the site after receiving information about the crash and began rescue operations.

The bodies of those who died were taken for the required legal and post-mortem procedures.

Overtaking Maneuver Under Investigation

Anand Superintendent of Police G.G. Jasani said the accident occurred while the bus was attempting to overtake the truck.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the maneuver and the subsequent collision. Police have begun collecting evidence and statements as part of the investigation.

Traffic Affected on Expressway

The crash temporarily disrupted traffic on the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway as authorities secured the accident site and dealt with the damaged vehicles.

Rescue personnel worked to assist the injured and clear the roadway so traffic could resume normally.

PM Modi Expresses Condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences following the deaths and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.

The Prime Minister’s Office said he was saddened by the loss of lives and conveyed sympathy to the families of the victims.

Police are continuing to investigate the precise circumstances of the crash. The initial information indicates that the bus was attempting to overtake the truck, but investigators will examine all relevant evidence before determining the full sequence of events.
