Jammu Gets ₹49.34 Crore Push for New Parking Infrastructure
Jammu is set to receive a major boost to its urban parking infrastructure after the Jammu and Kashmir Government approved two projects with a combined estimated cost of ₹49.34 crore.

The projects are designed to address persistent parking shortages and traffic congestion in some of the city’s busiest locations. The approved facilities include a parking-cum-commercial complex at Parade and a multilevel car parking facility at SMGS Hospital.
The government’s decision focuses on creating more organised parking spaces in areas that experience substantial vehicular movement throughout the day. By shifting vehicles away from roads and into dedicated facilities, the projects are expected to help improve traffic flow and reduce pressure on busy stretches of the city.
The Parade project is expected to combine parking infrastructure with commercial use, while the proposed facility at SMGS Hospital will provide additional dedicated space for vehicles in an area regularly visited by patients, attendants, medical staff and other members of the public.
Officials have highlighted better utilisation of limited urban land as another important objective behind the projects. Instead of relying heavily on roadside parking, the new facilities are intended to support a more structured approach to managing vehicles in densely used parts of Jammu.
The initiative comes as the city continues to experience growing pressure on its existing transport infrastructure. Increasing vehicle numbers and development in urban areas have made parking management an important part of efforts to improve mobility.
Once completed, the facilities are expected to provide greater convenience for residents, commuters and visitors while contributing to more orderly movement of traffic around the selected locations.
The projects also form part of the wider focus on planned urban development in Jammu, where improvements to transport-related infrastructure are increasingly being linked with the efficient use of available city space.
