Dhaka, September 7, 2026: Bangladesh authorities have arrested nine people in connection with the killing of a Special Branch police officer in the Savar area, marking a significant development in the investigation.

The victim, identified as 58-year-old Special Branch Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain, was killed in the Aminbazar area of Savar. Police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) launched a coordinated investigation following the attack.

According to investigators, 15 people were named as accused in the case. Nine of them had been arrested by September 7, with arrests carried out by different police and RAB units.

Four suspects were reportedly detained by RAB-10 in Munshiganj on September 6, while another group was arrested later that night in the Aminbazar area by RAB-4. Police had also earlier detained the driver of a vehicle allegedly connected to the incident.

Investigators said some of the suspects have alleged links to drug activity and juvenile gangs. Authorities are examining whether criminal networks and substance use played a role in the attack.

The arrests were made across different locations as law-enforcement teams worked to locate people named in the case. Investigators are now questioning those in custody and examining evidence that could clarify how the attack was planned and carried out.

The case has drawn particular attention because the victim was an active police officer. His killing has prompted intensified efforts by law-enforcement agencies to identify everyone allegedly involved.

Authorities have not yet announced that all suspects have been captured. Police and RAB teams are continuing efforts to locate the remaining people named in the case.

The arrested individuals will face the country’s judicial process, and allegations against them will need to be established through legal proceedings.
