Poland Accelerates Defence Industry Growth Through Major SAFE Programme
Poland is accelerating the development of its domestic defence industry as the government uses the European SAFE programme to support national manufacturing, military capabilities and advanced security technologies.

A major agreement has been signed involving Poland’s Armament Agency and defence company Mesko, marking an important stage in a large-scale programme for the production and delivery of Piorun portable air-defence systems.
The initiative is intended to channel substantial investment into Polish industry while expanding the country’s ability to manufacture important defence equipment domestically. Polish authorities have described the programme as an important opportunity for strengthening national industrial capacity.
The Piorun system has also become an increasingly important Polish defence export product. Several European countries have expressed interest in acquiring the system, creating additional opportunities for Poland’s defence manufacturers to expand their presence in international markets.
The government is linking the development of the defence sector with a broader strategy of technological independence. Increasing domestic production can help Poland maintain greater control over critical capabilities while supporting specialised industrial jobs and research.
The latest developments also include work on new military vehicles. A new heavy infantry fighting vehicle has been presented as part of efforts to expand Poland’s land-force capabilities and develop modern equipment within the national industrial sector.
Poland is simultaneously increasing its ambitions in the space sector. Cooperation has been initiated on the development of a military satellite communications system designed to provide secure and sovereign communications capabilities.
The government wants Poland to build a larger national satellite infrastructure for military applications. Such systems could provide secure communications and improve the ability of the armed forces to operate independently in demanding security environments.
The combined focus on defence manufacturing, space technology and secure communications demonstrates Poland’s effort to develop a broader national security ecosystem rather than relying exclusively on foreign suppliers.
The government believes that investment through European financing mechanisms can generate benefits for both national security and the wider economy. Increased production can strengthen industrial companies, support skilled employment and encourage technological development.
Poland’s latest defence initiatives therefore represent a significant push toward greater domestic capability, technological resilience and long-term industrial competitiveness.
