Saudi Arabia Warns of Heavy Rain and Flash-Flood Risk Across Western Regions
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology has issued a weather warning for parts of the Kingdom’s western and southwestern regions, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected to bring a risk of flash floods and hail.

The warning, updated on September covers parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and Makkah. Strong winds are also expected in several areas, according to the Saudi weather authorities.
Authorities have urged residents and visitors to exercise caution as intense rainfall can quickly lead to flooding, particularly in valleys and low-lying areas where water can accumulate.
Saudi Civil Defense has advised people to avoid valleys, drainage channels and locations where floodwater may collect during periods of heavy rain.
The warning is particularly important for communities in mountainous and hilly parts of the western and southwestern Kingdom, where sudden rainfall can produce rapidly changing conditions.
Heavy rain accompanied by hail and strong winds can also affect road travel and outdoor activities. Drivers have therefore been urged to remain alert and follow official safety instructions.
The National Center for Meteorology’s latest alert highlights the need for residents to monitor weather updates as conditions can change during the day.
Saudi authorities regularly issue regional weather warnings to help communities prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, particularly during periods when thunderstorms and intense rainfall are forecast.
For residents in the affected regions, officials are recommending precaution rather than unnecessary travel into areas vulnerable to flooding.
The latest warning remains an important public-safety alert as Saudi Arabia prepares for potentially unsettled weather across several western and southwestern areas.
