Bishkek, September 1, 2026: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has arrived in Kyrgyzstan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, placing Türkiye’s regional diplomacy and expanding international partnerships in focus.
Erdoğan is attending the summit in Bishkek at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. According to Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, the Turkish president is scheduled to address the expanded session of the summit and hold bilateral meetings with leaders participating in the gathering.

The Turkish president and First Lady Emine Erdoğan were welcomed by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and First Lady Aigul Japarova at the event. Erdoğan joined other participating leaders in watching the opening ceremony.
The event provides an additional platform for cultural interaction among countries connected through the broader Turkic and Central Asian sphere.
Security and Defense Remain Important
