Putin said that numerous developments are unfolding across the Middle East and other parts of the world, making it particularly important for Russia to understand Cairo’s perspective on the rapidly changing international situation. He also stressed that Russia takes Egypt’s position into consideration when shaping its practical policies concerning regional and international affairs.

The remarks underline the significance Moscow places on its consultations with Cairo at a time when geopolitical tensions are affecting security, trade, energy and diplomatic relations across several regions.

Russia-Egypt Coordination Remains Important

The Russian and Egyptian leaders have maintained close communication on a number of regional issues. Egypt has repeatedly advocated dialogue, de-escalation and diplomatic solutions to conflicts in the Middle East, while also seeking to protect regional stability and national sovereignty.

Egypt’s diplomatic role has gained additional importance because of its geographical position and its involvement in efforts concerning regional security and the Palestinian issue. President El-Sisi has previously stressed the need for reducing tensions and pursuing political settlements to prevent further instability in the region.

Meeting Takes Place During BRICS Summit

The Putin-El-Sisi meeting comes as leaders gather in New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12–13. Egypt has been a full BRICS member since January 2024 and continues to use the grouping as an important platform for expanding cooperation with major emerging economies.

The summit is taking place against a backdrop of significant international challenges, including conflicts and economic uncertainty. BRICS members are expected to discuss a wide range of issues involving international cooperation, economic development, security and global governance.

Wider Strategic Partnership

Beyond political consultations, Russia and Egypt have developed cooperation in several strategic sectors. Major areas include energy, tourism, investment and infrastructure. One of the most prominent projects is the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, which is being developed with Russian assistance. The two countries are also working on the Russian Industrial Zone in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The latest meeting therefore reflects not only diplomatic coordination but also the broader strategic relationship between Moscow and Cairo.

Putin’s comments indicate that Russia sees Egypt as an important partner whose views matter when assessing rapidly changing developments in the Middle East and the wider international arena.
