DRDO and Indian Navy Successfully Test Indigenous Air-Droppable Container ‘ADC-150’

India has taken another step toward strengthening its naval logistics and indigenous defense technology. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Indian Navy, has successfully completed four in-flight release trials of the newly developed Air Droppable Container ADC-150.
The trials were carried out from February 21 to March 1, 2026, using the Boeing P‑8I Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. The testing took place over the Arabian Sea off the coast of Goa, where the system was evaluated under multiple extreme release conditions.
Indigenous Logistics Support System
The ADC-150 has been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO to deliver payloads of up to 150 kilograms from aircraft to naval forces operating far from the coastline. The container is engineered to safely release and transport essential supplies directly to ships deployed in open waters.
Officials stated that the system is designed to ensure precise delivery even during demanding operational situations, making it an important tool for naval logistics.
Enhancing Naval Operational Readiness
The successful trials demonstrate the capability of the ADC-150 to provide rapid logistical support to naval vessels operating in distant maritime zones. The container can carry critical items such as:
- Emergency medical supplies
- Technical equipment and spare parts
- Essential operational stores
- Survival and rescue materials
Such capability is particularly important when naval ships are deployed deep at sea and immediate resupply from ports is not feasible.
Quick Response During Maritime Emergencies
The system is expected to significantly improve the Indian Navy’s ability to respond to emergencies at sea. Ships facing technical issues, medical emergencies, or operational shortages can receive critical supplies without needing to return to port.
By enabling air-based supply delivery directly to vessels, the ADC-150 helps reduce response time and ensures operational continuity during missions.
Boost for Indigenous Defence Technology
The project also reflects India’s broader push toward self-reliance in defense technology and equipment development. The collaboration between the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Navy demonstrates the growing capability of the country’s domestic defense research ecosystem.
With the successful completion of these trials, the ADC-150 is expected to strengthen India’s maritime logistics network and enhance operational support for naval forces deployed across the Indian Ocean region.
