The Government of India has urged citizens not to believe misleading information circulating on social media regarding a possible fuel shortage linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities clarified that claims suggesting petrol and diesel supplies in India could soon be disrupted are false and baseless.

Recently, a viral video on social media platforms claimed that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz could affect India’s fuel imports and advised people to rush to petrol pumps and fill their vehicle tanks immediately. Officials have dismissed the claim, stating that there is no shortage of petroleum products in the country.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (India), India currently maintains adequate reserves of crude oil and refined petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). The ministry confirmed that fuel supply across the country remains normal and uninterrupted.

Authorities also stated that major oil marketing companies are continuing to supply fuel through their extensive retail networks nationwide. These companies are working to ensure that petrol pumps across the country remain well stocked and that consumers do not face any inconvenience.

Officials have appealed to citizens to avoid panic buying and unnecessary crowding at fuel stations. They emphasized that such reactions, triggered by unverified information, can create temporary disruptions even when supplies are stable.

To closely monitor the situation, the ministry has established a 24-hour control room that continuously tracks fuel availability and stock levels throughout the country. This step is aimed at ensuring rapid response in case of any operational issues related to supply and distribution.

The government has also encouraged people to rely only on official sources for accurate information. Citizens can report suspicious news, videos, or images related to government matters to PIB Fact Check through its official WhatsApp number or email for verification.

Officials reiterated that India’s energy supply chain remains stable and that there is no immediate threat to fuel availability, urging the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified claims online.
