Rouse Avenue Court Accepts Closure Report in Case Against Former NDTV Promoters

New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday accepted a closure report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case involving former NDTV promoters, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, concerning alleged irregularities by ICICI Bank related to loan repayments from the media company.

Special Judge Shailender Malik reviewed the closure report and submissions from both the CBI and the complainant, ultimately deeming the findings “satisfactory.” The court emphasized that the complainant had expressed satisfaction with the investigation during the previous hearing on July 1, 2025, and had declined to file any protest petition.

In his order, Judge Malik stated, “Upon examining the closure report, the accompanying documents, and submissions made by the public prosecutor of CBI, as well as the complainant’s statement indicating satisfaction with the investigation, the court finds no criminality or violation of Section 19(2) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, by the accused individuals. The closure report is accepted accordingly.”

The case stemmed from allegations of a financial irregularity involving a purported Rs 48 crore loss incurred by ICICI Bank during the settlement of loans in 2009. The Roys, along with other accused parties, were under investigation for potential violations in the loan repayment process.

The CBI had submitted its closure report following a detailed investigation into the matter. According to the agency, no evidence was found to support claims of criminal misconduct or regulatory violations by Prannoy Roy, Radhika Roy, or any other individuals named in the case.

With the court’s acceptance of the closure report, the matter has officially been closed, offering relief to the Roys. This development marks the conclusion of a long-standing legal matter that had drawn significant public and media attention.

The Roys were formerly associated with NDTV, a prominent media company in India, and had faced multiple legal battles over the years. This case, involving allegations of financial misconduct, was one of several controversies linked to their tenure as promoters of the organization.

The closure of this case signifies a key legal victory for the Roys and reflects the court’s reliance on the findings of the CBI’s investigation.
