The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new rules for FASTag transactions to improve toll payment validation and curb fraudulent activities. These changes will streamline the toll collection process, making approvals or rejections faster and more efficient.

Key Changes in FASTag Regulations

1. Real-Time Balance and Status Check

FASTag transactions will now be approved or declined based on a real-time status check. The system will verify the tag’s balance and validity before processing payments, ensuring quick decision-making.

2. Blacklisted or Hotlisted FASTags Will Be Rejected

  • If a FASTag has been blacklisted or hotlisted for more than 60 minutes, the transaction will be automatically declined at the toll booth.
  • If a FASTag is scanned and becomes inactive within 10 minutes, the transaction will also be rejected.
  • If both conditions (60 minutes and 10 minutes) apply, the driver will be charged double the toll fee.

3. Restrictions on Last-Minute Recharge

  • If a FASTag remains blacklisted or inactive for over 60 minutes, users cannot reactivate it by adding funds at the toll booth.
  • However, if a user recharges their FASTag within 10 minutes after a failed transaction, they will not be charged double toll fees.

Impact of These Changes

  • Prevents last-minute fraudulent recharges to bypass penalties.
  • Ensures smoother toll transactions by avoiding delays caused by insufficient balances.
  • Encourages users to maintain sufficient balance in their FASTag wallets.
  • Enhances security and efficiency in toll collection.

With these updated rules, NPCI aims to create a seamless and fraud-free toll payment system. FASTag users must now proactively maintain their accounts to avoid disruptions and additional charges.
