Inquiry Committee Formed to Investigate Justice Yashwant Varma

New Delhi – The Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, has constituted a three-member judicial panel to probe allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi High Court. This step ensures a fair and transparent review of the claims made against the judge.
Committee Members and Investigation
The inquiry panel includes senior judges from various High Courts, who will examine the evidence and prepare a comprehensive report on the matter.
Judicial Duties Suspended
As a precautionary measure, Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Upadhyaya has been instructed not to assign any judicial cases to Justice Varma until the inquiry concludes.
Supreme Court’s Response
The Supreme Court dismissed any speculation linking Justice Varma’s transfer from the Allahabad High Court to the reported recovery of cash from his official residence. It clarified that these matters should be treated separately.
Progress of the Inquiry
The Delhi High Court had already begun an internal investigation, gathering relevant evidence and witness testimonies. A preliminary report was submitted to the Chief Justice of India on March 21 for further review.
This inquiry marks a crucial step in maintaining judicial accountability and reinforcing trust in the legal system.
