New Delhi, June 2 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), emphasized the rapid transformation of India’s civil aviation landscape in recent years, describing it as a period of historic progress and policy-led expansion.

During his remarks, PM Modi praised the significant rise in air connectivity across India, crediting the government’s regional air connectivity initiative—UDAN—for bridging the gap between smaller towns and major cities. He said that the scheme has enabled millions of Indians to experience air travel at reduced costs, particularly in regions that were previously underserved.

“This development has brought affordable air services within reach of the average Indian, especially in areas that were long disconnected from the aviation network,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s growing stature in global aviation, noting that the country has evolved from being a limited market to playing a key role in shaping global aviation trends. “India is now recognized as a significant influencer in the global air transport community, setting new benchmarks in policy innovation and operational growth,” he said.

PM Modi underscored that India now ranks as the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world—a testament to sustained reforms and infrastructure development. He also pointed to the significant infrastructure expansion that has taken place in the past decade.

According to the Prime Minister, this transformation has not only boosted economic activity but has also made the aviation sector more inclusive and forward-looking. He stressed that India is now seen as a model of visionary leadership in the aviation ecosystem—balancing growth with accessibility, and innovation with inclusion.

He concluded by saying that the momentum gained in recent years would continue, as the government remains focused on building modern, sustainable airport infrastructure and enhancing India’s role on the global aviation map.
