IndiGo Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing in Ranchi After Mid-Air Bird Collision

Ranchi (Jharkhand), June 2, 2025 — A passenger aircraft operated by IndiGo, flying from Patna to Ranchi, had to make an emergency landing on Monday due to a bird collision shortly before arrival.
As the flight began its descent towards Birsa Munda Airport, the pilot reported an unusual impact during a turn at an altitude of around 3,000 to 4,000 feet, approximately 10–12 nautical miles from the airport. The object was later believed to be a large bird, possibly a vulture, prompting an immediate request for emergency landing clearance.
Airport Director R.R. Mourya confirmed that the emergency protocols were promptly activated. “After receiving the report, all necessary safety procedures were followed. The aircraft landed without incident, and everyone onboard is safe,” he stated.
The flight safely landed at 1:14 PM and has been grounded for inspection before any further operations. No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew, and regular airport operations continued without disruption.
Meanwhile, another IndiGo aircraft flying from Raipur to Delhi encountered severe turbulence caused by a dust storm while on approach to Indira Gandhi International Airport. The pilot aborted the initial landing attempt and circled in the air before making a safe landing after conditions stabilized.
The second incident, which was captured by passengers and shared widely on social media, has sparked renewed discussions around weather-related flight safety in India.
Both events highlight the challenges aviation crews face mid-air and the effectiveness of safety protocols when responding swiftly to unexpected situations
