Putin Condemns U.S. Strikes on Iran, Warns of Escalation Toward Major Conflict

Moscow – June 2025
In a firm response to growing Middle East tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday criticized the recent American military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them “unjustified” and a threat to international peace and stability.
During a high-level meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who delivered a personal message from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Putin expressed concern over the deteriorating security landscape in the region. According to Russian sources, the letter detailed Tehran’s position following the U.S. bombings and sought diplomatic backing.
Speaking to reporters, Putin stated that the U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure were not only disproportionate but could provoke a much larger conflict if not immediately addressed through dialogue and restraint. He warned that such actions were “pushing the world toward great danger.”
Although President Putin promised support for the Iranian people, he did not elaborate on what specific steps Russia might take. The Russian government has consistently maintained its position against military interventions that destabilize sovereign nations.
The crisis intensified after remarks from former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli officials surfaced, suggesting potential plans to target Iran’s top leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Speculations about a regime change fueled further outrage in Tehran and concern in Moscow.
Russia has firmly opposed such rhetoric, cautioning that any moves to overthrow the Iranian government or assassinate its leaders could plunge the region into a full-scale war. “The consequences of reckless actions may be catastrophic,” a Kremlin spokesperson warned, urging all parties to pursue diplomatic channels instead.
As the geopolitical standoff deepens, the international community watches with mounting anxiety, fearing that the current path could lead to another prolonged and bloody conflict in the Middle East.
