New Zealand Deploys Military Aircraft to Prepare for Possible Evacuation from Middle East

The government of New Zealand has taken precautionary steps to assist its citizens who may be affected by ongoing tensions in the Middle East. A military transport aircraft from the Royal New Zealand Air Force has been deployed to remain ready in case evacuation assistance becomes necessary.
Early in the morning, a C-130J Hercules aircraft departed from RNZAF Base Auckland (Whenuapai) to position itself for potential operations linked to the safe return of New Zealand citizens in the region. Authorities said the deployment is a precautionary measure to ensure that resources are available should the security situation worsen.
Government officials explained that the aircraft is prepared to support evacuation efforts if required, particularly for New Zealand nationals who may be unable to leave conflict-affected areas through normal travel options. The move reflects ongoing monitoring of the situation by New Zealand authorities.
At the same time, the government is advising citizens currently in the Middle East to make use of available commercial flights, which have started operating again from some cities. Travelers who can safely access these services are encouraged to do so as a primary option for leaving the region.
Officials have also urged all New Zealand nationals in the Middle East to register with SafeTravel, the country’s official travel advisory and registration platform. Registration allows the government to provide real-time updates, safety information, and assistance if conditions change.
Authorities stated that supporting New Zealanders overseas remains a priority, and preparations such as deploying the aircraft ensure that the government can respond quickly if evacuation becomes necessary.
The situation in the Middle East continues to be closely monitored by New Zealand officials, who are working to keep citizens informed and prepared while coordinating with international partners to maintain the safety of their nationals abroad.
