INS Trikand Completes Successful Port Visit to Mauritius, Strengthening Maritime Ties

The INS Trikand has successfully concluded its port call at Port Louis in Mauritius, marking another step forward in strengthening maritime cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
During the visit, the Indian naval ship engaged in a series of professional exchanges and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius National Coast Guard. These interactions included joint training sessions, discussions on maritime operations, and practical demonstrations of naval procedures.
A major highlight of the visit was the conduct of specialized training capsules for personnel of the Mauritius National Coast Guard. These sessions focused on key operational skills such as harbour watchkeeping and sea watchkeeping. Participants also received hands-on exposure to safety procedures including firefighting techniques and damage control measures, which are essential during maritime emergencies.
Beyond professional training, the port visit also included cultural exchanges, sports activities, and community outreach programs designed to deepen people-to-people connections. Such engagements are a regular part of naval diplomacy, helping foster trust and cooperation between friendly maritime nations.
The warship was also opened to the public on 12 March 2026, allowing local residents and visitors to explore the vessel and interact with members of the crew. More than 500 visitors came aboard the ship during the open-day event, gaining insight into naval operations and India’s maritime capabilities.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence (India) noted that the visit reflects the strong and enduring partnership between India and Mauritius, particularly in areas such as maritime security, training, and regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
The successful port call by INS Trikand highlights the role of naval engagement in strengthening diplomatic ties while also supporting capacity building among partner nations. As both countries continue to collaborate on maritime security and regional stability, such visits remain an important platform for deepening mutual understanding and operational cooperation.
