New Delhi/Tehran, June 8: The Government of India has issued an urgent advisory asking Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Iran and advising those currently residing in the country to consider leaving through available transportation options as security concerns continue to rise across the region.

The advisory was released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Tehran following a sharp escalation in tensions in West Asia. Officials have expressed concern over the rapidly changing security environment and the possibility of further disruptions to transportation and communication networks.

According to the advisory, Indian citizens are encouraged to closely monitor official announcements, remain in contact with embassy authorities, and make travel arrangements at the earliest opportunity while commercial routes remain operational.

Concerns Over Transportation and Connectivity

One of the major concerns highlighted by authorities is the possibility of increasing restrictions on regional air travel. Several airlines have reportedly adjusted schedules and routes due to security considerations, creating uncertainty for international travelers.

Diplomatic sources indicated that any further deterioration in the situation could affect the availability of flights and other transportation services, making it more difficult for foreign nationals to depart at short notice.

Indian Community in Iran

Iran is home to a sizeable Indian community consisting of students, professionals, business workers, and pilgrims. Many Indian students are enrolled in educational institutions across cities such as Tehran, Qom, Mashhad, and Shiraz.

In addition to students, a significant number of Indian workers are employed in industrial, engineering, shipping, and commercial sectors. Religious travelers and tourists also form part of the Indian presence in the country.

Officials are maintaining close contact with community representatives and have advised all citizens to remain vigilant and follow instructions issued by local authorities and the Indian mission.

Embassy Issues Safety Guidelines

The Indian Embassy has urged citizens to keep travel and identity documents readily accessible and ensure that family members are informed of their current location and contact details.

Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from sensitive locations, and remain updated through official government communication channels.

Those who have not yet informed the embassy about their presence in Iran have been encouraged to register their details to facilitate communication and assistance if required.

Emergency Assistance Available

To support Indian nationals during the evolving situation, the Embassy of India in Tehran has activated emergency communication channels. Citizens requiring urgent assistance have been advised to contact embassy officials through designated helplines and email services operating round the clock.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that it is continuously monitoring developments and remains prepared to provide necessary support to Indian citizens affected by the situation.

Government Monitoring Developments

Indian authorities are closely tracking events in the region and coordinating with diplomatic missions to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian nationals. Officials emphasized that the advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure and that citizens should remain alert while following guidance from the embassy.

As uncertainty continues across West Asia, the government has reiterated its commitment to assisting Indian citizens abroad and ensuring that appropriate arrangements are available should the need for further action arise.
