Ghana: Police Arrest Suspects in Murder, Bank Robbery and Gold-Buyer Attack Cases
Accra, Ghana | September 11, 2026: Ghanaian police have arrested several suspects in connection with a series of serious crimes, including the alleged murder of a missing couple, attempted bank robberies and attacks targeting gold buyers in different parts of the country.

According to Ghana’s police authorities, the arrests followed weeks of intelligence-led operations conducted by specialized teams and regional police commands. Investigators also recovered weapons, ammunition and vehicles during the operations.
Suspect Arrested in Missing Couple Murder Case
One of the major developments involves Abraham Awundok, 32, who was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Dr. Jesse Amuah and his wife, Elizabeth Amuah Esi.
The couple had been reported missing in April 2026. Police investigations later indicated that they had allegedly been murdered, and their remains were recovered and taken to the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police allege that Awundok, who had worked as an errand boy for the couple, killed them and subsequently took their mobile phones, money and private vehicle.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly left Ghana for the United Arab Emirates following the incident. He was later declared wanted through an Interpol Red Notice and deported from Dubai to Ghana on August 30, 2026.
Bank Robbery Attempt Also Foiled
Ghanaian police also reported disrupting an attempted robbery targeting banks in Labone, Accra.
Authorities said the operation resulted in the arrest of one suspect, while two other suspects were killed and another escaped. Subsequent intelligence-led operations conducted between August and September 4 resulted in several additional arrests.
Police recovered three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, 357 rounds of ammunition and two vehicles during these operations.
Gold Buyers Targeted by Criminal Groups
Another part of the investigation involves alleged robbery and murder attacks targeting gold buyers in Ghana’s Western and Ashanti regions.
Police said several suspects were arrested following an August 21 operation connected to the alleged robbery and killing of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta.
Authorities recovered locally manufactured pistols, ammunition, a metal bar and cutlasses during the investigation.
Police said specialized teams have been deployed to affected areas to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
The investigations remain ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of the alleged criminal networks and whether additional people were involved.
