Where did the Right to Information come from and where was it passed first?

You all must be aware of the RTI Act. This is the right to information. This is called the Right to Information. What was the need for this? With the development taking place in the world, people are increasingly lacking the right information. People are not able to know what is true and what is wrong. Fake news has reached its peak. Therefore, it is becoming very important that people have information on every subject that is necessary for them. Citizens are the people who form the government of a country, I am talking about democracy here. In democracy, citizens also have the right that if they are forming the government, then they should get information about the functioning of the government, about the budget of the government, about the policies of the government. Similarly, they also have the right to know what kind of governance system they will choose. They can know about their policies in this regard. Therefore, this right has been provided to the citizens of the country so that they can get information about all the government work. This is a very important right of theirs.  Let us first talk about where the Right to Information, that is, the right to obtain information, started. We go to Sweden. Sweden is considered to be the pioneer of the world’s first Right to Information Act. It sent this act to the Swedish Parliament in 1766. This act was an important beginning of freedom of the press, in which information about the government, judiciary, parliament is published and disseminated.Today we are seeing what is being discussed in the Parliament. We get to know about it through government channels. Its path has been paved from there. The main features of the Right to Information in front of us are that Sweden’s RTI Act is the first such act in the world which was made to ensure information and to provide access to it to the people. This act provides the right to provide information and access to information to the citizens of Sweden. If someone violates RTI, then people have the right to appeal. The process of punishment for not following the right to information has also been decided. Sweden’s RTI Act ensured access to information. Therefore, it can be considered a very important step which is an example for the world, following which all the countries got this act passed and implemented in their respective places.
