Japan Airlines (JAL) reported on Thursday that it had fallen victim to a cyberattack, which resulted in significant delays for domestic flights and some disruptions to international services. At least 14 domestic flights were delayed by up to an hour due to the attack.
The disruption began at approximately 7:25 am, leading the airline to suspend ticket sales for all domestic and international flights for the remainder of the day. Passengers with existing bookings were assured that their reservations would still be honored.
JAL is actively working to resolve the situation and trace the source of the cyberattack. The airline took swift action by temporarily shutting down the affected router in an attempt to contain the issue. Despite these measures, the airline cautioned that the effects of the attack could extend further, potentially affecting additional flights.
In response to the incident, the Metropolitan Police Department has been contacted, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause and scope of the cyberattack.
Japan Airlines later shared an update on social media, stating, “We have identified the issue and are monitoring the recovery process. Sales for flights scheduled for today have been temporarily halted, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Passengers are advised to stay in touch with the airline for the latest information and updates on their flights.
