Under a decree issued by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the iGA has been reorganised with a new structure designed to strengthen the authority’s role in digital transformation and government technology.

The revised structure includes a Directorate of Communications and Marketing, a Directorate of Human and Financial Resources, a Directorate of Strategic Planning and Projects, and a dedicated Directorate of Innovation and Advanced Technologies.

The authority’s statistical functions have also been reorganised. A Deputy Chief Executive responsible for Statistics and Population Registry will oversee directorates dealing with population and demographic statistics as well as economic statistics.

The restructuring is intended to create a clearer institutional framework for managing Bahrain’s expanding digital-government agenda.

Innovation and advanced technology have become increasingly important to Bahrain’s public-sector strategy as government services move toward more digital and data-driven systems.

The iGA has played a central role in developing electronic government services, digital platforms and national information systems. The latest restructuring places technology and innovation more prominently within its organisational framework.

The move also comes as Bahrain continues efforts to improve the efficiency and accessibility of public services through digital tools.

The government has been developing systems that allow citizens and businesses to access services electronically while reducing administrative procedures and improving coordination between public institutions.

The new strategic-planning structure is expected to support more coordinated implementation of technology projects across government agencies.

The statistical component of the new organisation could also strengthen the government’s ability to collect, manage and analyse population and economic data.

Better-quality government data can support policymaking in areas including economic development, population planning, public services and infrastructure.

Bahrain’s wider digital strategy has increasingly focused on artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and the modernisation of government operations.

The restructuring therefore represents more than an administrative adjustment; it signals an effort to align the country’s digital-government institutions with emerging technological demands.

As governments around the world accelerate adoption of AI and digital services, Bahrain is seeking to strengthen the institutional capabilities needed to manage this transformation.

The new structure is expected to provide a stronger foundation for innovation, strategic technology planning and the continued expansion of digital government services.
