New Delhi, June 24, 2025 — In a continued show of growing cooperation between India and Australia, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia, in New Delhi on Tuesday for wide-ranging talks. The discussions touched upon several key sectors including education, space technology, water conservation, agricultural innovation, energy collaboration, and consular relations.

Following the meeting, Minister Jaishankar took to social media platform X to share his reflections, stating, “Pleased to meet Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia, this morning. Discussed education, space, water, agriculture, energy and consular issues.” His remarks reflect a positive outlook on the continued strengthening of ties between India and the Australian state.

This diplomatic engagement adds to a series of recent high-profile interactions between leaders of both countries, signaling an upward trajectory in bilateral relations. On June 17, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during the G7 Summit held in Kananaskis, Canada. Prime Minister Modi described the meeting as a pleasant exchange with a “friend,” further emphasizing the warmth shared between the two nations. “Good to meet my friend, PM Albanese of Australia, during the G7 Summit in Canada! @AlboMP,” Modi posted on X.

Reinforcing the growing defence partnership, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also held talks in New Delhi with Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles. Their meeting focused on evaluating and enhancing the strategic defence cooperation between the two countries. Minister Singh appreciated Australia’s firm backing of India’s recent policy stances, praising its “unequivocal support” for India’s actions in regional matters—a likely reference to joint security concerns in the Indo-Pacific.

These back-to-back diplomatic engagements underscore the comprehensive nature of the India-Australia relationship, which now spans not only defence and foreign policy but also education, science, sustainable agriculture, and resource management. The consistent exchange of views and collaborative initiatives reflect both nations’ shared goals for a stable, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

This deepening partnership illustrates the commitment of India and Australia to build a resilient framework of cooperation, rooted in democratic values and mutual respect, with the aim of addressing global and regional challenges through joint effort and innovation.
