The Delhi High Court on Friday declined to grant an expedited hearing for former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. Kejriwal had filed a request for a quicker hearing, highlighting the issue that he had yet to receive a copy of the sanction, which is important for his defense in the case.

A fresh application was submitted, noting that the ED had clarified its position on the matter recently, which could allow for an earlier hearing. Despite this, the court upheld its decision to maintain the original hearing date, which is scheduled for December 20, 2024. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, who presided over the case, advised that all necessary documents be exchanged between the involved parties by the scheduled date.

This case arises after the Delhi High Court had earlier issued a notice on Kejriwal’s challenge against the trial court’s decision to proceed with the chargesheet. The court also chose not to issue a stay on the trial proceedings at this stage. The matter will be heard on December 20, 2024, when the court will consider the plea for a stay and the request to quash the trial court’s order.

This ruling marks a key point in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the excise policy case, which continues to attract considerable public and political attention.
