Air India Plane Crashes Near Ahmedabad Airport; One Survivor Found, Rescue Efforts Underway

Ahmedabad, June 12:
In a tragic aviation incident, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying a total of 242 individuals including 12 crew members, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft collided with a nearby doctors’ hostel, situated close to the airport perimeter, triggering a large-scale emergency response.
According to preliminary reports, the plane lost control soon after takeoff and struck the residential building at high speed. The crash has caused extensive damage to the hostel structure, raising concerns about additional casualties on the ground.
Police officials confirmed that only one survivor has been found so far — a passenger seated in 11A. The individual has been hospitalized and is undergoing medical treatment. Speaking on the matter, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik stated, “We have found one survivor who is receiving treatment. It is too early to confirm the total number of fatalities.”
Providing further details, Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore added, “After an initial inquiry, we have determined that the aircraft hit a doctors’ residential hostel soon after takeoff. Emergency services are at the scene, and efforts to recover additional survivors are ongoing.”
Air India has released a breakdown of the nationalities on board. Out of the 230 passengers, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British citizens, seven were from Portugal, and one passenger was from Canada.
Authorities are continuing search and rescue operations as the death toll is expected to rise. Investigators from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other relevant bodies are expected to launch a formal investigation into the cause of the crash.
