Vote Counting Time Changed for Ludhiana West By-election, Now to Begin at 8 AM on June 23

Ludhiana, Punjab – June 22, 2025: The Election Commission of India has officially announced a revision in the vote counting schedule for the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election. According to the latest directive, the counting will now begin at 8:00 AM on June 23, instead of the previously set time of 7:00 AM.
The change was communicated to the Deputy Commissioner through an official letter issued by the Election Commission. The letter explicitly stated that the vote counting for the 64-Ludhiana West Assembly Constituency would commence at 8:00 AM on June 23, 2025, instead of the earlier time of 7:00 AM. This adjustment was made to ensure a smoother counting process and better coordination among election officials.
The by-election for Ludhiana West became necessary following the demise of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. In the electoral race, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Jiwan Gupta, while AAP has fielded Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora.
The Ludhiana West by-election is one among several others conducted across the country. As per a release from the Election Commission, bye-polls were simultaneously conducted in multiple Assembly Constituencies (ACs) including:
24-Kadi (SC) and 87-Visavadar in Gujarat,
35-Nilambur in Kerala,
64-Ludhiana West in Punjab,
80-Kaliganj in West Bengal.
Polling for these by-elections was conducted at a total of 1354 polling stations across the five constituencies on June 19, beginning at 7:00 AM.
The Election Commission’s timely communication and logistical adjustments reflect its continued efforts to maintain transparency, efficiency, and coordination during the electoral process, particularly during sensitive bye-elections across various Indian states.
