Macron Calls for De-escalation and Dialogue in Middle East Amid Tensions with Iran

Paris, June 22, 2025 – French President Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed France’s solidarity with key Middle Eastern leaders and urged Iran to show restraint amid a growing regional crisis. In a public statement, Macron revealed that he had spoken earlier in the day with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, the Sultan of Oman, the President of the United Arab Emirates, and the Emir of Qatar to express France’s support during these tense times.
Addressing Iran directly, Macron reiterated France’s firm demand for the immediate release of two detained French nationals, Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, emphasizing their urgent return as a priority for French diplomacy.
Referring to overnight military strikes, Macron called on Iran to avoid further escalation and exercise maximum restraint. He stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could inflame the already dangerous situation in the region, instead urging all parties to return to diplomatic channels to seek a peaceful resolution.
“The only path that guarantees peace and security for everyone,” Macron stated, “is one based on dialogue and a transparent commitment from Iran to abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions.”
Macron’s message is a clear push for regional stability, non-proliferation, and peaceful negotiations, underlining the risks of continued confrontation and the broader impact on global security.
