Team Europe Commits €2 Billion to Global Child Health in Ongoing Partnership with Gavi

In a significant announcement, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that Team Europe will contribute over €2 billion to advance global child health, continuing its decades-long alliance with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. This renewed commitment aims to ensure that children worldwide receive life-saving vaccines and the opportunity to grow up healthy and protected.
Von der Leyen emphasized the tremendous impact of this collaboration, noting that over one billion children have already been vaccinated through joint efforts. This milestone reflects a historic success in preventing deadly diseases and improving survival rates in low-income countries.
Despite this progress, millions of children still lack access to essential immunizations. The new funding will be directed toward expanding vaccine coverage, reinforcing healthcare systems, and supporting innovation in vaccine development. It also seeks to bridge gaps in access, especially in marginalized communities.
The Gavi model, which unites public and private sectors, has been instrumental in delivering vaccines efficiently to countries most in need. Team Europe’s continued financial support ensures Gavi can scale up operations and tackle emerging health challenges more effectively.
More than just a financial pledge, this investment reflects a shared global vision—that every child deserves a healthy start in life. It reaffirms Europe’s commitment to global solidarity, human development, and the belief that preventive healthcare is a powerful tool for creating a more equitable world.
With this renewed momentum, the EU and Gavi are poised to save millions more lives in the years to come.
