WHO and UK Ambassador Collaborate to Strengthen Health Initiatives in Ukraine

Geneva, Switzerland – July 1, 2025:
In a significant diplomatic engagement, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met with Yevhenii Tsymbaliuk, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to the United Nations Office at Geneva, to reinforce international support for Ukraine’s health system amidst the ongoing crisis.
The high-level meeting focused on WHO’s continued assistance to Ukraine, particularly in the areas of mental health care, rehabilitation services, and school-based nutrition initiatives. These areas remain critical due to the lasting impact of conflict on public health and societal stability in Ukraine.
Taking to social media, Dr. Tedros wrote, “Honored to welcome Ambassador @YevheniiT from @UKRinUNOG to WHO headquarters. Our conversation centered on expanding @WHOUkraine’s efforts, including mental health outreach, rehabilitation care, and ensuring nutritious school meals for Ukrainian children. We remain steadfast in our promise of #HealthForAll.”
The dialogue comes at a time when Ukraine’s health infrastructure is under immense strain. The psychological toll of war, along with physical injuries and disrupted access to basic services, has created an urgent need for scalable and sustainable health interventions. Providing mental health support and physical rehabilitation is vital not just for recovery, but also for rebuilding communities. Additionally, ensuring nutritious meals in schools contributes to both health and educational resilience for the nation’s youth.
Ambassador Tsymbaliuk’s engagement reflects the UK’s ongoing commitment to global health diplomacy and humanitarian assistance in Ukraine. His visit also highlights the value of multilateral cooperation in addressing complex health emergencies.
WHO’s reaffirmation of its commitment to “Health For All” in Ukraine demonstrates the organization’s focus on equity and inclusive recovery, even in conflict zones. As Ukraine navigates unprecedented challenges, the support from WHO and its international partners continues to be a cornerstone of hope and resilience for its people.
