In a recent statement shared on social media, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasized the need for a transformative approach to global health. He asserted that healthy populations form the cornerstone of strong societies, robust economies, and flourishing nations. However, he made it clear that lasting health is not forged solely within hospitals or clinics.

“Health is built in homes, schools, workplaces, and communities,” Dr. Tedros explained, highlighting the critical role of everyday environments in shaping individual and public well-being.

Dr. Tedros urged all nations to adopt a radical shift in their healthcare frameworks. Instead of focusing only on treating sickness, he advocated for a proactive model centered on prevention. This new approach, he stressed, must tackle the root causes of disease while promoting overall wellness and resilience.

The WHO’s vision calls for more investment in addressing the social, economic, and environmental factors that influence health — known as the “determinants of health.” These include access to clean water, nutritious food, quality education, safe housing, stable employment, and equitable healthcare.

The post also acknowledged the efforts of the President of the United Nations General Assembly (@UN_PGA) for convening the High-level Interactive Dialogue on Determinants of Health. This international platform brings together leaders and stakeholders to discuss how to reshape public health strategies to achieve #HealthForAll.

Dr. Tedros’ message is a powerful reminder: the future of global health lies not just in medical advances but in building healthier societies from the ground up — where prevention, education, and equity form the true foundations of public well-being.
