Amman, July 2025 – In a major humanitarian operation, the World Health Organization (WHO) has successfully led the medical evacuation of 35 critically ill patients, most of them children, from Gaza to Jordan. The patients were accompanied by 72 family members, seeking urgent and specialized treatment not available in the conflict-affected enclave.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, shared the update on social media, emphasizing the urgency and scale of the crisis. He expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Jordan for its continued cooperation and willingness to provide high-level care to the evacuees. “We are grateful for the support in ensuring these patients receive the lifesaving attention they desperately need,” he stated.

While the evacuation marks a significant step, the situation in Gaza remains dire. According to WHO, more than 10,000 patients in Gaza still require urgent medical evacuation—many of them children and vulnerable individuals suffering from complex medical conditions that cannot be treated locally due to overstretched healthcare systems and limited access to essential supplies.

Dr. Tedros made a heartfelt appeal to the international community, urging more countries to step forward and offer assistance. “Lives depend on it. There are many more waiting,” he warned, highlighting the pressing need for coordinated global action to ease the humanitarian burden.

Images shared alongside the announcement show children and families boarding buses and being assisted by aid workers, offering a glimpse into the human toll of the crisis and the relief brought to those who are finally receiving help.

The WHO continues to advocate for uninterrupted humanitarian access and stronger international partnerships to ensure that no critically ill patient is left behind.
