WFP Ramps Up Emergency Food Aid in Gaza as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

GAZA – July 25, 2025 – In response to escalating hunger and mounting fears of famine in Gaza, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is significantly expanding its emergency food relief operations. With over two million people facing critical food insecurity, the agency has intensified efforts to deliver essential supplies amidst worsening conditions.
Since May 21, the WFP has managed to bring in and distribute approximately 22,000 metric tons (MT) of emergency food assistance across Gaza. These deliveries are part of an extensive operation to support civilians grappling with severe shortages of basic necessities amid ongoing instability.
In the last seven days alone, WFP coordinated the entry of 349 aid trucks, transporting close to 4,200 MT of food essentials. These shipments are vital for households that have been cut off from regular supply chains and markets due to the prolonged crisis.
However, WFP officials have cautioned that while this recent surge in aid represents a meaningful step, the scale remains insufficient. With more than two million lives at risk, the current aid volume is still far from meeting the actual nutritional needs of the population. The agency continues to stress the need for larger and more sustained deliveries to address the gap.
Encouragingly, since July 23, there has been noticeable improvement in the clearance and movement of food convoys, suggesting a potentially more reliable flow of aid in the immediate future. Despite this progress, the WFP warns that the situation remains urgent and that long-term humanitarian access must be maintained without interruption.
The organization continues to appeal to the international community for reinforced support and unrestricted access to affected areas to prevent a full-scale food crisis. More updates on the operation can be found through the official WFP communication channels.
