World Bank’s Business Ready Report Sets New Standard for Evaluating Global Business Climates
The World Bank’s latest #BusinessReady report introduces a more comprehensive, transparent, and inclusive approach to assessing the ease of doing business around the world. Developed with input from a diverse network of global experts—including economists, business leaders, policymakers, and civil society representatives—the report represents a significant shift in how business environments are analyzed and compared across countries.
In this year’s edition, the Business Ready report evaluates 50 economies using an extensive set of 1,200 indicators. These indicators cover critical dimensions of the business lifecycle, from starting a company and securing permits to trading across borders and resolving commercial disputes. The goal is to provide a richer, more accurate understanding of how regulatory systems, market conditions, and institutional frameworks affect business operations on the ground.
Unlike previous benchmarking tools, Business Ready emphasizes balance, objectivity, and transparency, ensuring that countries are not only scored on formal regulations but also on how those policies are implemented in practice. This data-driven model is designed to help governments identify reform opportunities and create more competitive, inclusive, and resilient economies.
Looking ahead, the World Bank aims to achieve global coverage by 2026, eventually including 180+ economies in its analysis. This expansion will provide a truly worldwide snapshot of business environments, enabling more informed decision-making by investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs alike.
