Washington, D.C. | August 6, 2025 —
President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to Washington, D.C. officials, expressing alarm over the surge in violent crime and youth gang activity. He stated that if immediate action is not taken, he may invoke federal authority to restore order in the capital.

The President pointed to reports of teenagers as young as 14 being involved in robberies, assaults, and shootings, claiming that many are released shortly after arrest. He criticized the local justice system for being too lenient, particularly when dealing with juvenile offenders.

“Criminals as young as 14 are committing violent acts and walking free. They have no fear of law enforcement because they know nothing will happen,” said Trump. “That’s about to change.”

Trump called for legislative reforms allowing minors engaged in violent crimes to be prosecuted as adults, starting at age 14. He emphasized that the safety of citizens and the reputation of the capital city are at stake.

“Washington, D.C., must be a symbol of safety, beauty, and law — not lawlessness,” he said.

The President also referenced a recent case in which a young man was reportedly beaten by a group of local assailants. While no specific details were provided, Trump said such incidents highlight the need for stronger deterrents.

“If D.C. doesn’t get its act together, I will have no choice but to take federal control of the city and ensure criminals are held accountable,” he warned.

Trump’s comments have reignited debates over juvenile justice laws, federal authority in D.C., and crime policy. Supporters back the call for stricter enforcement, while critics caution against federal overreach and urge investment in youth support programs.

“Make America Great Again — starting with our capital city,” Trump concluded.
