Rome, August 6, 2025 – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has issued a firm statement following a recent ruling from the Tribunal of Ministers in the controversial Almasri case. The tribunal has dismissed charges against Meloni herself but indicated it may seek parliamentary authorization to proceed against Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, and Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano.

Meloni criticized the delayed judicial process, noting that the case took over six months—well beyond the three-month legal timeframe—and was marred by what she described as “unjustifiable leaks.”

The tribunal’s decision argues that Meloni was neither informed nor involved in the key decisions under investigation and therefore did not contribute to any alleged criminal conduct. However, the Prime Minister called this reasoning “patently absurd.”

“It is unthinkable that such a serious matter was handled by senior ministers and an undersecretary I personally delegated to intelligence, without my knowledge or consent,” Meloni stated. “Unlike some of my predecessors, I do not distance myself from my team. This government operates in full cohesion under my leadership.”

Emphasizing solidarity with her ministers, Meloni declared her full support for Piantedosi, Nordio, and Mantovano, asserting that all decisions were taken collectively and in the interest of national security.

Reaffirming the government’s position, she said, “It is absurd to seek prosecution against them and not against me, if we truly acted together—as we did.”

Meloni concluded by stating she will defend the actions of her administration in Parliament and will be present alongside the ministers in question when the vote on the authorization to proceed is held.

“The government acted responsibly, with the sole goal of safeguarding the safety of the Italian people,” she affirmed.
