Sunshine, August 7, 2025 — Australians are now enjoying greater access to timely and free medical attention, thanks to the expansion of Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across the country. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that 90 such clinics are now open nationwide, offering immediate, no-cost care for non-life-threatening health issues.

The initiative, part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the public health system, ensures that Australians can access urgent medical treatment without long waits or out-of-pocket expenses. With just a Medicare card, patients can walk in and receive care for conditions such as minor injuries, infections, and illnesses that require attention but not emergency room visits.

In the Melbourne suburb of Sunshine, one of the newly launched clinics is already making a difference. Dr. Truong and nurse Melinda have begun treating patients from the local community, helping reduce the burden on hospital emergency departments while ensuring people receive the help they need, closer to home.

“This is about making healthcare more accessible and reducing pressure on our hospitals,” Prime Minister Albanese stated. “We’re delivering on our commitment to provide free, fast, and reliable care where people live.”

The Medicare Urgent Care Clinics operate extended hours, including evenings and weekends, making it easier for working families and individuals to seek medical support when they need it most.

Community members and healthcare professionals alike have welcomed the initiative, saying it fills a critical gap between general practice and hospital emergency services.

With 90 clinics now open and more planned, the government is positioning the Medicare system to meet modern healthcare demands—offering not just affordability, but convenience and quality care across Australia.
