Elon Musk Questions Apple Over Absence of X and Grok in ‘Must Have’ App List

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has taken to social media to challenge Apple over its “Must Have” section on the App Store, questioning why two of his platforms—X and Grok—are missing from the featured list despite their high global rankings.
In his post, Musk pointed out that X currently holds the title of the number one news app worldwide, while Grok, the AI-powered chatbot integrated within X, has climbed to fifth place among all apps. “Hey @Apple App Store, why do you refuse to put either X or Grok in your ‘Must Have’ section? Are you playing politics? What gives? Inquiring minds want to know,” Musk wrote.
The statement adds to ongoing tensions between Musk and major tech companies, particularly over app store policies and platform visibility. While Apple has not yet responded publicly, the omission raises questions about how the “Must Have” section is curated and whether subjective factors influence which apps receive premium placement.
Industry analysts note that the App Store’s editorial lists can significantly impact user downloads, making placement in these sections highly sought after by developers. If Musk’s claims of bias gain traction, the debate over tech platform fairness and competition could intensify.
For now, both X and Grok remain widely used, but Musk’s remarks may spark broader conversations about transparency in app store recommendations.
