The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly denounced the killing of six journalists in the Gaza Strip, calling it a serious breach of international humanitarian law and a direct attack on press freedom. The journalists, identified as Anas Al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammad Al-Khaldi, were reportedly killed when Israeli forces targeted a journalists’ tent in Gaza City.

In its official remarks, the OIC described the incident as a “heinous crime” and part of an ongoing pattern of systematic violations committed against media personnel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The organization highlighted that such acts violate international protections established to safeguard journalists. It further noted that since October 7, 2023, a total of 242 journalists have been killed under similar circumstances.

According to the OIC, the targeting of journalists is a deliberate attempt to obstruct media coverage and prevent the international community from obtaining accurate information about events in Gaza. The body placed full responsibility for the attack on Israel and demanded an impartial and thorough investigation into the killings.

The OIC also called on relevant international organizations to act urgently to stop the repeated and intentional targeting of journalists in the region. It stressed the need for stronger protective measures in accordance with international law and existing global treaties to ensure the safety of media professionals working in conflict areas.

By issuing this condemnation, the OIC reaffirmed its unwavering support for the protection of journalists and urged the global community to take decisive action to guarantee their safety and uphold freedom of the press in times of war and crisis.
