PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Call for Peaceful Resolution of Ukraine Conflict After Talks with Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for a recent phone call in which the two leaders exchanged views on global developments, including Putin’s recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. The conversation highlighted India’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with major world powers amid the continuing war in Ukraine.
In his remarks, Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position that the Ukraine conflict must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, not escalation. “India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard,” the Prime Minister said, underscoring New Delhi’s balanced approach in promoting stability while maintaining dialogue with both Moscow and Western capitals.
India’s stance has often been described as one of “strategic neutrality,” as the country seeks to uphold its historic ties with Russia while also strengthening partnerships with the United States and Europe. By keeping open lines of communication with both sides, New Delhi aims to position itself as a voice of reason in a deeply divided international landscape.
Modi added that he looks forward to continued exchanges with Putin in the coming days, signaling that India intends to play a constructive role in fostering dialogue and reducing tensions. The interaction comes at a time when global leaders are intensifying discussions on how to end the bloodshed in Ukraine and move toward a durable peace settlement.
