WHO Provides Urgent Wheelchair Support for Patients in Gaza

As medical needs in Gaza continue to escalate, the World Health Organization (WHO) has stepped in with critical support for the injured. The organization has received 572 wheelchairs, including 260 specially designed for children, which are now being stored in its warehouse for immediate distribution to hospitals and partner organizations across the region.
This delivery comes at a time when hospitals are overwhelmed by the growing number of casualties. The new wheelchairs will serve dual purposes—supporting mass casualty management in hospital settings and providing much-needed assistance for long-term rehabilitation. Importantly, the supplies will also help reduce the extensive waiting lists for mobility aids maintained by many humanitarian groups in Gaza.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed that sustained humanitarian access is essential to ensure all patients in need receive the proper assistive technology. He reiterated the call for a ceasefire, underlining that the uninterrupted delivery of medical supplies is vital to saving lives and restoring dignity to those injured.
This latest initiative highlights the urgent intersection of health, humanitarian response, and peace. Without safe passage and continuous access for aid delivery, thousands of patients risk being left without the essential tools they need for recovery.
