UIDAI’s Mission-Mode Biometric Update Campaign Covers 100,000+ Schools Nationwide

In a significant nationwide outreach effort, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has completed a large-scale school saturation campaign under its Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) initiative. More than 100,000 schools across India have been covered so far, benefiting millions of children by ensuring their Aadhaar biometric details remain accurate and up to date.
Six-Month Mission to Strengthen Aadhaar Records
The MBU drive is being implemented in mission mode for six months across the country. Recognizing the importance of timely biometric updates for children, UIDAI has made the service free of cost for one year starting 1 October 2025 for children in the 7–15 age group.
Biometric updates at this stage are essential because children’s fingerprints and iris patterns evolve as they grow. Keeping Aadhaar information updated ensures seamless authentication for availing educational scholarships, welfare schemes, and other public services.
Strong Coordination with States and Schools
UIDAI Regional Offices are working in close coordination with state education departments to organize biometric update camps directly within school premises. This collaborative approach has made the process more accessible and convenient for students and their families, reducing the need for separate visits to enrollment centers.
Schools have played a crucial role by facilitating awareness, scheduling camps, and ensuring maximum participation. The campaign’s structured planning has enabled large-scale coverage within a short timeframe.
UDISE+ Integration Brings Real-Time Visibility
A key innovation in this initiative has been integration with UDISE+ (Unified District Information System for Education Plus), managed by the Department of School Education & Literacy. This integration has provided visibility into the biometric update status of children at the school level.
Through data synchronization, authorities were able to identify students whose MBUs were pending and proactively conduct camps to complete the updates. This data-driven strategy has enhanced efficiency and ensured targeted implementation.
Enhancing Access to Government Services
Accurate biometric data is vital for maintaining the reliability of Aadhaar authentication systems. Updated records reduce service disruptions and ensure that children continue to receive benefits linked to their Aadhaar identity without obstacles.
By combining policy support, technological integration, and institutional collaboration, the initiative represents a major step in strengthening India’s digital identity framework for young citizens.
