ASEAN Leaders Discuss Strategic Directions at 35th ASCC Council Meeting in Philippines

On 5 March 2026, San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), attended the 35th ASCC Council Meeting in Makati City, Philippines. The session focused on charting strategic directions for the ASCC and explored ways to strengthen ASEAN’s institutions and mechanisms to build a more integrated, resilient, people-centered, and future-ready community.
The meeting also recognized the Philippines’ leadership in advancing ASEAN Community-Building initiatives, emphasizing resilient and empowered families, inclusive development, youth engagement and innovation, as well as environmentally sustainable practices and food security.
The event highlighted ASEAN’s ongoing commitment to fostering cooperation and ensuring that socio-cultural development remains central to regional integration.
