Calgary Police Charge 16 Men in Extortion Investigation Targeting South Asian Community
Calgary, Canada — Canadian authorities are continuing a major investigation into a series of alleged extortion incidents in Calgary, with police seeking public assistance after releasing photographs of several accused men

The Calgary Police Service says 16 individuals are facing a combined 56 criminal charges linked to investigations into alleged extortion targeting members of the city’s South Asian community. Police have released photographs of 15 of the accused in an effort to gather additional information from the public.
Investigators say the cases involve a number of serious incidents, including allegations connected with shootings. According to police information, the investigation has examined dozens of extortion-related incidents in Calgary since April 2025, with some cases involving gunfire.
Police have indicated that most of the accused are of Punjabi origin and are currently living in Canada. Authorities have also noted that none of the 16 accused are Canadian citizens. Most of those charged have been released on bail, while one suspect remains in custody, according to reporting on the investigation.
The investigation has also drawn attention because police are examining whether some suspects could have links to organized criminal networks. Investigators have not, however, established such connections as fact in every case and continue to assess the evidence.
Calgary police are asking residents who recognize the individuals or have information about their activities or associates to contact investigators. Authorities say information from members of the public could help investigators determine the full scope of the alleged extortion network.
The case has heightened concerns about the safety of Calgary’s South Asian community, particularly amid reports of threats and violence connected to extortion attempts.
All of the accused remain presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges or developments could follow as police continue examining the evidence.
