UK Announces £100 Million Winter Defence Package for Ukraine
The United Kingdom has announced a new £100 million defence package for Ukraine, with a major focus on strengthening the country’s air-defence capabilities before the winter season.

The funding will be channelled through NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and will help provide Patriot missiles and other air-defence equipment. The British government said the assistance is intended to help Ukraine protect civilians, critical infrastructure and its armed forces from continued Russian attacks.
Patriot Interceptors a Major Priority
A significant part of the new support will go toward additional Patriot air-defence interceptors. Ukraine has repeatedly identified air-defence ammunition as one of its most urgent military requirements as Russian missile and drone attacks continue.
The British government said the equipment is expected to be delivered before winter, when concerns over attacks on energy and other critical infrastructure traditionally become particularly important.
Drones and Artillery Also Included
The package is not limited to air-defence missiles. Britain will also provide air-defence interceptors, large-calibre artillery ammunition and drones.
The UK said its wider drone commitment involves supplying more than 120,000 drones to Ukraine during the year. The drones include interceptor systems designed to counter Russian drones, reconnaissance platforms and attack drones.
Britain has also reached a milestone in its artillery assistance, having recently delivered its millionth large-calibre artillery round to Ukraine. Additional long-range artillery ammunition is expected to be supplied with financial contributions from several European partners.
Zelenskyy Welcomes British Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Britain for the new contribution, describing the winter package as important for strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
Zelenskyy has also highlighted the need for faster delivery of Patriot interceptors as Ukraine prepares for another difficult period of attacks against its infrastructure.
Broader UK-Ukraine Defence Cooperation
The new funding comes alongside wider British-Ukrainian cooperation in defence technology.
The two countries are working on drone and artificial-intelligence capabilities, while Britain has also agreed to facilitate the release of technical information needed to establish local Ukrainian production lines for components connected to the Storm Shadow/SCALP long-range missile programme.
Ukraine Defence Contact Group Meets
The announcement coincides with a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, a coalition of around 50 countries that coordinates military assistance for Ukraine.
The meeting is focused on Ukraine’s immediate battlefield requirements and longer-term defence needs. Britain is co-chairing the gathering with Germany.
The latest commitment demonstrates that London intends to maintain substantial military assistance to Kyiv while placing particular emphasis on protecting Ukraine’s airspace and critical infrastructure ahead of the winter period.
