In a significant step towards making education more affordable, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced a 20% reduction in the prices of textbooks for students of classes 9 to 12. The revised prices will come into effect from the upcoming academic year, benefiting millions of students across India.

A Historic Price Reduction

NCERT Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani revealed that this is the first time in the council’s history that textbook prices have been reduced on such a large scale. He described the move as unprecedented and a reflection of NCERT’s commitment to supporting students and parents.

“This year, we brought in greater efficiency in paper procurement and partnered with advanced printing facilities. These measures have significantly reduced production costs, and we decided to pass on the benefits directly to students,” Saklani said.

Details of the Price Cut

As per the announcement, all textbooks for classes 9 to 12 will now be priced 20% lower than their current rates. For younger students, textbooks for grades 1 to 8 will continue to be sold at Rs 65 per copy. This ensures that all students, regardless of age, can access affordable learning materials.

Improving Affordability in Education

The decision to lower textbook prices aligns with NCERT’s larger goal of making quality education accessible to every student. By introducing efficient operational practices and embracing technological advancements in printing, NCERT has demonstrated its focus on reducing costs without compromising on the quality of educational content.

A Boost for Students and Families

The reduction in textbook prices comes as a relief for families, especially in the current economic climate, where education costs often put a strain on household budgets. This initiative is expected to encourage more students to access NCERT textbooks, which are an essential resource for academic success.

This move reaffirms NCERT’s dedication to enhancing the education system in India and supporting students in their pursuit of knowledge.
