Eutelsat, the world’s third-largest satellite operator by revenue, has made a significant move in expanding its satellite communications network. On Sunday, the company launched 20 new satellites using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base at 0513 GMT. This marks Eutelsat’s first satellite launch since the historic merger of France’s Eutelsat and Britain’s OneWeb in September last year.

Eutelsat’s CEO, Eva Berneke, in a recent interview with Reuters, emphasized the importance of this launch for the company’s growth strategy. “This is the first OneWeb launch of satellites since the merger,” Berneke said. “We will be launching more satellites over the coming years.”

The Paris-based Eutelsat, now operating a constellation of over 600 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, aims to cater to broadcasters, telecom companies, and radio stations globally. This recent launch is part of Eutelsat’s ongoing efforts to solidify its position in the rapidly evolving satellite communications industry.
