Beijing, June 4, 2025 — A minor earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck a part of inland China during the early hours of Wednesday, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) in India.

The seismic event occurred at approximately 4:43 a.m. IST (Indian Standard Time), with its epicenter positioned at latitude 33.73° North and longitude 81.99° East. The tremor was recorded at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface, which, according to experts, increases the potential for noticeable aftershocks.

Seismologists have flagged shallow earthquakes like this one as potentially more hazardous compared to deeper quakes. The limited depth allows seismic energy to reach the surface more directly, often resulting in stronger shaking and a higher likelihood of damage near the epicenter.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the NCS confirmed the earthquake’s coordinates and intensity, while also recommending that citizens remain alert. The agency noted that such events, even with moderate magnitude, should not be underestimated due to their potential to cause localized disruptions.

Authorities have urged the public to stay informed through official channels and advised those in nearby areas to follow safety protocols if aftershocks are felt. No major damage or injuries were reported at the time of the update.

For further details and real-time updates, residents and interested users have been encouraged to use the BhooKamp mobile application provided by the NCS.
