Guterres Urges Ethical Use of AI to Combat Hate Speech

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has voiced serious concern over the growing misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in spreading hate speech. In a recent statement, he warned that hateful content now travels faster and reaches more people than ever before, largely due to AI-driven algorithms.
Guterres urged global leaders, tech companies, and individuals to ensure AI is used to promote peace, not division. He emphasized that while AI has the power to transform lives positively — in areas like health, education, and climate — it must not become a tool that fuels hatred or misinformation.
“Let’s commit to using AI not as a tool of hate, but as a force for good,” he said, calling for responsible digital behavior and ethical innovation.
His appeal comes amid increasing concern that AI-generated content — including deepfakes and automated hate campaigns — can manipulate public opinion and incite violence. The UN continues to advocate for strong global frameworks that regulate AI development while protecting fundamental rights.
Guterres concluded by urging the world to stand united for peace, mutual respect, and understanding, reminding everyone that technology should uplift humanity, not divide it.
